Would you believe us if we told you Ayia Napa is a zen-filled Cypriot haven of 5 star luxury, calf-testing cycle routes and turquoise lagoons? Probably not. The area’s well-deserved reputation as a legendary spot for a summer of clubbing, beach parties and shot-filled mayhem has blocked out Ayia Napa’s best bits. But, if you know where to stay, hike, eat and dive – you’re in for a blissful, sun-kissed fortnight of Greek hospitality. Expect your itinerary to include a hike of the Cape Greco park, for a forest bathing few hours of botanical rejuvenation. And perhaps a hop into a welcoming booth at one of Ayia Napa’s upscale eateries for shisha, sushi or chill out music. Maybe you’ll pop your wetsuit on to dive down to a frankly phenomenal underwater museum – or a whopping wreck, depending on your interpretation of man-made, sea-based beauty. You’ll definitely explore the old town, dig out the archaeological treasures and generally mooch your time in Ayia Napa away.

Of course, Ayia Napa’s square of garage, techno, dance and cheesy-pop filled clubs is temptingly close. But, there’s more to Napa than DJ sets and dancing. It’d be a shame to miss it.

Weather in Ayia Napa

The best time to visit Ayia Napa is up for debate. Weather-wise, you’re looking at a solid chance of sunbathing between May and November. For the best parties? It pays to be fashionably late. Pitch up in August for those. A seasonal town, who perhaps shows its deep and meaningful side when the clubbers fly home for winter.

Discover the real Ayia Napa

The real Ayia Napa is undoubtedly to be found in enjoying its spectacular coast. Hike in the National Forest Park, explore the monastery and swerve the clubs and bars as much as you see fit. But you’ll always be reminded that, for some, the real Ayia Napa is accessed by blagging a ticket to THE best summer parties.

Once you get past the club night flyers and tempting promise of free bars and beach parties, Ayia Napa’s quietly simmering a solid menu of itinerary options. Coastal hikes, challenging cycling routes are added to a cultural and archeological mix you’d expect from a Greek town.

Ayia Napa’s cuisine straddles the culinary divide. Somewhere between refuelling clubbers with cheap eats and serving fine dining to A-listers there’s a little space for harbour-side seafood taverns and theatrical chopping in a gastronomic theatre. Savour the global menu and brace your palate for Greek sprits that double as digestive tonics.

Ayia Napa’s gems aren’t so much shrouded in secrets as they are drowned out by the heavy bass bouncing from the strip’s bars. Peeking past the PR engines takes perseverance that frankly there isn’t time for in this gorgeous corner of Cyprus. Take some tips from us instead.

More of Cyprus

Beaches, club-filled resorts and families enjoying package holidays, Cyprus in a nutshell? Not really. Ancient sites, a Mediterranean menu to quench the hunger of the most experimental foodies and mountain hikes that keep you on the trail for days are just the start. Yes, Cyprus will sweep you off your feet with its poolside bars and all-inclusive easy stays if you let it. But the biggest rewards on this island are handed out to explorers.

This cheery clutch of islands is all too often skipped over by those jetting off to distant shores. But discovering sun-soaked spots on British shores is only part of the allure of the Channel Islands. Succulent sea food, cliff hikes cooled by sea breezes, castles with long and rich histories, beaches that belong in Caribbean travel brochures and lavender fields that rival their French counterparts are all just a ferry ride away.
