Kos Travel Guide

A holiday to Kos can be many things. Yes, you can book yourself an all inclusive fortnight of sun and singing your heart out in the bars of Bar Street. But you can also flit here as part of an island hopping scamper around the Dodecanese. Or perhaps just set foot ashore for 8 hours as part of a cruise. Better still, find yourself a mid-sized hotel that’s just a little off the beaten track and have a good old rummage through Kos and its many different sides. Harbour-side cocktails always get our vote. Though, you’ll want to rack up some culture points in the castles, ruins and archaeological spots first.

Hiking in the mountains might be a tough ask when there are little known coves chilling on the coastline. Combine the two and your Kos holiday starts to edge ever further towards Greek adventure territory. Final Kos holiday tips? Marvel at the architecture in Little Venice. Never say no when your gut instinct draws you to a taverna wafting out home cooking aromas. And, however jaw-dropping the coastal views are, do pay a visit to the Dikeos mountains.

Kos climes…

For all out sunbathing and summer vibes, Kos’s peak summer runs from June to September. Though May and October chart some more than acceptable temperatures. Winters are mild, though most tourist-aimed businesses tend to be seasonal. January usually notches up a chilly-by-comparison 13°C.

Discover the real Kos

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with indulging in more than your fair share of gyros and fries on Kos. Unless, of course, that’s your exclusive menu for a fortnight. Why? Because excellent food and drink options are plentiful. Tables with views, exciting new fusion cuisine and a smattering of local Kos recipes make this island a place to indulge – with a little variety mixed in.

Greek antiquities are so liberally scattered on Kos, we feel almost foolish for suggesting you see them. There’s little choice in the matter. But do dig around for the best archaeological treasures. Obvious itinerary item out of the way, we’ve notched up some of Kos’ lesser known hits to get your to do list started.

Let’s start with the beaches. On Kos, they are numerous and ranging wildly in quality, so you might need a helping hand there. But, naturally, we don’t stop there. We’ve got insider tips to guide you to the best or better parts of Kos. And, occasionally, we’ll just nudge you in the right direction – to avoid any spoilers.
