Rhodes Travel Guide

Let’s cut right to the Rhodes chase. It’s one of Greece’s most popular islands for a reason. And, perhaps surprisingly, we don’t think that reason is the happy hour deals in Faliraki. Party-central it may be, but holidays to Rhodes can – and do – delve further than Bar Street’s wealth of nightlife. Obvious highlights are the cobble-strewn alleys of Old Town Rhodes and an island littered with ancient Greek artefacts. Then there’s the lesser-known spots. Europe’s got Prassoníssi pegged as one of its best places to windsurf. And, whether you take to the waves or not, you can’t fault the spectacle at play when the pros take to the water.

And the mere hint of secret places makes Rhodes an island to explore. You’ll uncover hidden springs, eateries that eschew marketing in favour of good old fashioned word of mouth and museums and monasteries that aren’t quite what you’d expect. we are, of course, keeping this spoiler free. If only to enter into the spirit of Rhodes itself. An island best uncovered by travellers who don’t want to see it all on Google first. Whether the menus, valleys, mountains or forests surprise you is up to you.

Catch some rays in Rhodes…

Seasonal opening hours are in full force on this island. The best time to visit Rhodes? When the open air clubs and beach bars are in full swing from June to September. Expect temperatures to peak – and we mean peak – in August. Winters are mild, but quiet.

Discover the real Rhodes

If you’re the kind of traveller that loves a rustic taverna, Rhodes will not disappoint. Perhaps you’re more glitzy and gourmet? Book a table – you’re catered for too. There’s a wealth of foodie experiences from cheerfully cheap bakeries to perfectly plated tasting menus. Drink wise? It has to be cocktails. Every time.

Rhodes businesses have adopted a very laissez-faire approach to the world wide web. So, if you’re looking for the best of, well, anything in Rhodes, you’ll need a hand finding it. We’ve gone back to basics and done some old school digging to point you in the right directions.

On any island, cove hunting, beach roaming and water sports are fair game. And Rhodes is no different. Except this island comes with far more to uncover inland too. Get off the beaten track to uncover secret spots and off road adventures or climb a mountain. Exploring is pretty much compulsory.
