Look: we’re not saying that Phuket is a gateway to paradise, but we’re not going to argue with Leonardo DiCaprio, who famously filmed parts of his famous film about a paradisiacal cove – The Beach – in Phuket Old Town. Of course, the rest of the film takes place on the nearby Phi Phi Islands, but that just means that our illustrious Hollywood friend missed out on the joys of this stunning, larger island, and we at Orbzii are truly sad for him.

Phuket is like a country in itself. Although it shares the amazing cultural and culinary heritage of Thailand, it has always had a more international flavour than the rest of the Land of a Thousand Smiles. The people from this area of Thailand are incredibly proud of their little fiefdom, and for good reason: here, there’s everything from top notch food to some of the most serene beaches on planet earth on offer. Even the sea is as warm as a nice bath, and incredibly calm to boot. If you’re looking for stunningly coloured sunsets, quality hospitality, and an injection of ancient culture all in one, then you can’t really get much better than a holiday to Phuket.

The best time to visit Phuket?

Like many other regions in South East Asia, Phuket effectively has two seasons: wet and dry. The dry season runs from November to April, and during this time temperatures tend to hover around thirty degrees, although the sea breeze takes away some of the edge.

Although the word monsoon seems scary, in reality heading to Phuket during the May to October rainy season can end up being an excellent decision. Rain tends to come down in short, powerful deluges, and the weather remains mostly sunny and warm. Although you may have to spend an hour or two every day under cover, the rest of the island is much quieter during this time, and accommodation is usually cheaper.
